Excellent Digital Theatre Choices for November
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Following this writer's acclaimed novel about a senior's road trip was converted into a 2023 film, it featured multiple charming musical numbers by the folk musician. More recently, another musician Passenger delivered the musical compositions for the stage adaptation, which will transfer to London's theatre district in winter. Passenger's album of musical interpretations, One for the Road – with bonus material that didn't make the stage production and a collaboration from Jack Wolfe, who played the storytelling character – is now accessible to stream.
Wonderland Tea Party
The dance company is presenting the classic story a hip-hop spin this winter, with their production at Sadler's Wells. Looking back several years, the same organization reimagined Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with this dance adaptation. Streaming on Digital Theatre.
Hedda Gabler
The playwright relocates Ibsen's play from historical Oslo to mid-century Britain and changes the main character into a retired film celebrity, in a reimagining drawing from the life of award-winning actress the film star. Hettie Macdonald directs Pearl Chanda in the world premiere at this performance venue in Richmond. Available 25-28 November.
Moments of Grace with Aurélie Dupont
Director Cédric Klapisch is best known for his frequently lighthearted films – but he also has a love of dance. His cinematic work titled En Corps featured ballerina this talented woman, whose teacher Aurélie Dupont, the étoile became artistic leader at Paris Opera, is documented through amazing dance footage in the filmmaker's earlier work, currently available on MarqueeTV.
The Estate
An intense performance from this performer drives Shaan Sahota's contemporary stage production, which will be available on the digital platform on mid-November. That night, to recognize inclusive media events and two and a half decades of the inclusion-focused group Stagetext, there's a subtitled online event with interactive discussion for spectators. BSL-interpreted, audio-described and standard formats of the play are offered.
